FIRST FRIDAY RECEPTION DECEMBER 7, 6-9PM!

Victoria Turner Powers has exhibited professionally since 1988, and is a multimedia artist, who has worked, and continues to work in a variety of new media, and to experiment using new techniques with old media. Primarily, a painter, and so particularly interested in the use of color in her work,  she has painted large abstract acrylics, impressionistic style paintings in oil, realistic style in watercolor, and alcohol ink paint on a variety of surfaces.

Victoria has also worked in other diverse media such as handmade paper collages and vessels, weaving, felting, foil relief etchings, and recycle art, sculpture, mixed media, and black and white 35 mm film photography. Working with abstraction in oil paint, and then once again in acrylic on canvas, are more recent concentrations for her.

Victoria grew up in Newark, Delaware and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in high school where she graduated from Myers Park.  She then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in art education and fine art as a painting major.

Victoria worked simultaneously as a professional artist and a full time art teacher most of her working career.

Victoria is a twice certified national board for professional teaching standards certified art educator who was awarded the North Carolina Art Educator Teacher of the Year award in 2009. She retired from full time teaching in 2014 to devote more time to create her own art.

Victoria was fortunate to have had the opportunity to run her own private art gallery, Victoria Powers Studio Ten, in the downtown Raleigh City Market area, The Blake Street Studios, for four years prior to relocating to her home studio in Northwest Raleigh. From there she is currently creating new works of art, is teaching private and small group lessons, and welcomes creating works for others by commission.

On a personal note, Victoria enjoys year-round lap swimming, singing and playing percussion around the triangle in the duo band called The Boomers, and being “mama V” to three adorable grandchildren!
