Juror - HannaH Crowell, Exhibition Designer at The Mint
HannaH Jean Crowell was taken captive by the art world as a young child and she has no intention of making an attempt to escape anytime soon. Her journey through the arts began in the mountains of North Carolina where she was born and raised. From the canvas to the camera or the orchestra pit to the stage, HannaH's childhood was rich in all types of artistic adventures, but it was design that caught her attention and took her to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where she received her B.F.A. in Design and Production with a focus in Scenic and Lighting Design. After receiving her degree, she moved to Washington, D.C. for the William R. Kenan Fellowship for Scene Design at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Following the Kenan Fellowship, Crowell continued to work as a designer in theatre throughout the D.C. metro area designing scenery, projections, properties, and serving as an associate or assistant designer on over 100 productions. She has also designed special events, weddings, graphics, websites, exhibitions and installations, interactive exhibitions, music videos, and worked for an architectural lighting design firm.
After leaving Washington, DC, she found an artistic home in the creative walls of the museum and gallery. HannaH served as the Exhibition Designer for The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University working on numerous regional, national, and international exhibitions. She also served as the Gallery Director for the Department of Art at Appalachian State University. She now resides in Charlotte, NC where she works as the Exhibition Designer at the Mint Museum. Whether it is a road trip, designing an exhibition or scenery for the stage, taking a hike, or traveling the world, she is always ready for the next adventure.
