June 3-24
First Friday Reception: June 3, 6-10pm
Main Gallery
The South is a hub of creativity and Raleigh has adopted a vision to become the Southern Capital for Arts and Culture. To do our part, VAE is showcasing the work of 41 artists, representing 7 of the southern states for the month of June. SCOPE 2016 is a survey of artist interpretations of the southern landscape. Many of the 47 pieces in the exhibition explore the dirt, vegetation, water, and sky that make up the actual physical landscape of the South while other artists use their work to comment on the social, political, economic, or cultural landscape. The pieces of art range from realistic drawing and painting to abstract sculpture and installation works. Stop by during the month of June to see the South through the eyes of our creative community!

The Brancato Award
The Brancato Award is given each year to an artist whose work has a unique take on landscapes. The Brancato Award is the First Place award for VAE's annual SCOPE exhibition. Kathy Brancato was a valued member of the VAE community who painted innovative landscapes. Kathy was also very supportive of her fellow artists and this award will allow her creative spirit to encourage other artists. The 2016 Winner is Stacey Holloway for Archetype.
