The Grid Project is VAE’s pop-up initiative for artist-driven exhibitions across Raleigh. It connects creatives with spaces, provides support when possible, and sparks visibility and engagement through art in unexpected places.

In "Skipping Sundays," Evans Smith reflects on her Methodist upbringing in a rural North Carolina town, revealing how a steadfast belief has always remained just out of reach. Through imagery, she explores the complicated dynamics of religion and faith, as well as the feelings of isolation that can occur when one's beliefs differ with those of those around them. How is it that some can wholeheartedly embrace traditional faith while the rest of us are left questioning?

Every culture, every person, every landscape knows shadow. September is its natural season, when the light grows long and golden, the world tilts toward darkness, and something in us turns reflective.
For one artist that might mean the literal shadows of a landscape at dusk; for another, the mythological underworld, the hidden self, or the silence between things.

The Streetframe windows on Fayetteville and Hargett have gotten a new look. Beginning August 17th, we invite you to experience a new exhibition of hidden spaces with prints by artist Sydney McBride and paintings by artist Garrett Love. Installed in our street facing gallery, these works are designed to be enjoyed round the clock, bringing art into the everyday rhythm in Downtown Raleigh.
