On Saturday November 4, 8-9:30pm, VAE will host six hilarious comedians of color in conjunction with the current exhibition, Black On Black V2, curated by Mike Williams and Linda Dallas.
The goal is to showcase talented comedy performers while creating deeper experiences of our exhibitions, encouraging new community connections, and giving you a chance to laugh your head off for 90 minutes. Who doesn't need a good laugh nowadays?!
For this show, comedy guru and host Adam Cohen is bringing in a crew to tickle your funny bones.

Mike Mello, headliner
Virginia-born and North Carolina-raised, Mike Mello is one of the most respected comedians in the region. He has toured with Tracey Morgan and Russell Peters; has opened for Dave Chapelle, D.L. Hughley, Nikki Glaser and Gary Gulman, among many others; and appears regularly at the Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival. Not only has his standup raised the standard of comedy in Raleigh for almost 15 years, he's also mentored many of the area's most talented young comedians.
Matt White
Matt's comedy ambitions were hatched at East Carolina University, where he created the Seriously Clowning comedy company, which established the now-thriving Greenville, NC comedy scene. His "if you build it, the comedy will come" mentality and strong work ethic has propelled his career, which has included winning the Carolina's Funniest Comic contest in 2013 and Port City's (Wilmington) Top Comic in 2012. He has opened for Tig Notaro, Alonzo Bodden, Tim Meadows, Rory Scovel and Sean Patton, among others.
JD Etheridge
Based in Greensboro, JD has quickly established himself on the North Carolina comedy scene. He has been a finalist multiple times in the NC's Funniest Person Contest and the Ultimate Comedy Challenge, and has opened for Tom Segura and Rodney Perry, among others. He's also the co-host of The Open Micers podcast, and is a big fan of grilled cheese sandwiches and video games.
Dejahzh Hedrick
Dejahzh lives in Winston-Salem, but was born in the mountains of Tibet sometime around the 8th century A.D. as an immaculate conception. He was recently a finalist in the NC's Funniest Person contest.
Micah Hanner
Micah hails from Winston-Salem, and performs regularly around North Carolina. He co-hosts The Open Micers podcast, and has been a finalist in the NC's Funniest Person Contest and the Ultimate Comedy Challenge.
Brandy Brown
Brandy is a multi-talented performer who was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Raleigh. In addition to standup comedy, she's also an accomplished actress, producer and writer, appearing on both sides of the camera for several independent films and sketch series.
