Redbud Writing Project
The Redbud Writing Project is a creative writing institution serving adults in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and beyond. Redbud's mission is to provide affordable, rigorous classes in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and more to the general public. Their headquarters, where they host classes and literary events, is located at 719 N. Person St. in Raleigh, while they also teach at bookstores and other satellite locations around the Triangle (and, for the duration of the pandemic, online).
Donations to Redbud will go towards their scholarship fund: one of Redbud's core missions is inclusivity and they are deeply committed to providing access to creative writing instruction to everyone, not just those who can afford it. To date, they have provided more than $7,000 in scholarships to students from all walks of life and have run two six-week Fiction I classes that were completely free to the public. One Fiction I student said about her experience with Redbud, "So far, in taking the Fiction 1 writing class, I have learned how the foundation of building a story, what the core elements of a story are and received invaluable time workshopping my submissions with both peers and an experienced professor. I am so happy to now be on my way towards my dreams, especially since, without this scholarship, I never would have been able to do so. It truly is an inspiring experience and I am super grateful to take part of such an amazing project."
Redbud Writing Project is fiscally sponsored by VAE Raleigh, a 501(c)3 non-profit creativity incubator. Donations are tax-deductible.
