VAE is seeking a lineup of on-call photographers to document a bustling program of upcoming exhibitions and events. Once you’ve applied using the form below, your information will be kept on file via an on-call database. If you’re the right fit for an upcoming opportunity, we will reach out to you on an individual basis.

At VAE, we have a wide range of events and exhibitions that warrant an even wider range of talent! We strongly encourage any photographer that feels confident in their availability to document events to apply.

There is no background, concentration, or style that is irrelevant– we are focused on compensating artists for their technical skill and assistance alone. To demonstrate this proficiency, the application requires that you submit 3-5 samples of your work.

What could these samples include? Documentation of:

Exhibition openings

Installation shots

Program photography

Event photography

Headshots/Portrait photography

And more!

Entry Information:

To use the online application to submit information about you and your work, please review these instructions for naming your files.

All files should be named like so: 01_LASTNAME_TITLE.jpg, 02_LASTNAME_TITLE.jpg.

Still images should be sent as jpegs should be at least 1000px at their widest dimension, not to exceed 2MB per image.

Eligibility

This is open to all photographers in the Triangle region that can apply their technical and artistic skills to document VAE events. While applicants must be over the age of 18 and have reliable access to a DSLR camera, there are no additional educational, institutional, or professional requisites.

We strongly encourage photographers with disabilities, undocumented backgrounds, and members of historically marginalized communities to apply.

Compensation

Booked photographers will be paid $45 an hour, with an estimated 2-3 hours of work per event. In order to receive payment, photographers must be 18 years and older. Keep in mind that any opportunity that yields a payment of $500 or more can only be completed if the photographer has a valid Social Security Number. If the payment amount is over $500 you will be asked to provide a copy of a W9 tax form.

Accessibility

VAE’s gallery entrance, lobby, and exhibition space are all located on the ground floor with accessible paths of travel. The space has flexible seating and restrooms. Our aim is to make entering our exhibitions accessible to everyone. For events that may take place at alternative venues, we will work with you ahead of time to determine necessary accommodations.

VAE’s COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY

The job description above has been written based on the skills most commonly found in the individuals who have previously filled these roles. Flexibility and accommodations will be provided to any candidate or team member who needs them. Because of the longstanding lack of diversity in the hiring practices of cultural arts organizations, VAE wants to make it clear that folks of color, folks with disabilities, queer folks, and folks without citizenship are welcome to apply for all current opportunities. If you’d like to start a conversation about any job, its requirements, or our staff culture before submitting application materials, please reach out to Ant Lobo-Ladd via email. (ant@vaeraleigh.org)

VAE Raleigh is an equal opportunity employer. We strive to represent our entire community, including people at the intersections of multiple identities and lived experiences. We recognize and are working to ratify the inequities and lack of diverse representation in both the arts and nonprofit sectors. Creative individuals who are people of color, immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, people with low-income, and hold other marginalized identities are encouraged to apply. VAE commits to providing accommodations and adaptations to job descriptions to choose the best team member. VAE Raleigh seeks to foster a fully inclusive work culture and expects all employees to further that as part of their commitment to our shared work.
