The Research Triangle Foundation(RTF) is seeking to commission artwork for the RTP Headquarters building located at 12 Davis Drive, RTP. Artists working in all media are invited to submit their qualifications for consideration of this project.
RTP is the largest university research park in the country. The Park was founded in 1959 by a group of individuals who saw the potential of collaboration among business, government, and local universities. These individuals banded together to start the Research Triangle Foundation, the not-for-profit that runs the Park today.
Since then, world-changing inventions from the barcode to life-saving HIV drugs have been invented here. Today, the Park is home to more than 300 different companies and 55,000+ employees in industries including micro-electronics, telecommunications, biotechnology, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, humanities, and environmental sciences.
RTF’s mission is to facilitate collaboration between the Triangle universities, promote cooperation between universities and industry, and create an economic impact for the citizens of North Carolina. As RTP looks toward its next 60 years, it is beginning a redevelopment that aims to bring the evolving needs of the Triangle community to the forefront.
The Commissioned piece should celebrate this monumental project. Called Hub RTP, this new mixed-use district will feature 100 acres of indoor and outdoor environments at the heart of the Park. Hub RTP will encourage innovation and collaboration, and energize visitors and both professionals and individuals.
At this time, we are only looking for examples of past work and resume. No additional consideration will be given to artists who prematurely submit mock-ups/designs.
The schedule for the project is as follows.
September 28th - Deadline to submit work samples
October 7th - Five artists will be selected to create mock-ups for the commissioned piece. Selected artists will receive a $200 proposal stipend.
November 12th - The final selection for the commissioned work will be finalized and announced.
The selected artist will receive a stipend with a ceiling of $7000 to cover materials and time.
