Post Residency Presentation & Reception with Jade Wilson
Jade Wilson was VAE Raleigh and Rocky Mount Mills’ first artist in residence in a new partnership to bring conscientious and community-oriented artists to Rocky Mount to use their artistic practices to create a stronger bond between the redeveloped mills and the surrounding community. Jade spent just over a month at the mill engaging with a wide range of people who call Rocky Mount home and launched her newest artistic endeavor: CROSSING THE COUNTY LINE.
During this reception, Jade will discuss her time at the mill, the work she made during the residency, and how you get involved through her upcoming residency with the Durham Art Guild.
We will also have an open conversation on social responsibility as an artist. Jade is using her current work to figure out what being a socially responsible artist means to her. She is focusing on telling stories of communities she belongs to and similar communities she once lived in, of people who generally aren’t listened to or properly cared for. Our conversation will focus around the following questions from Jade:
> How do we improve the quality of life of those neglected and deemed not worthy by our society?
> Where does that start?
> Who is responsible?
VAE staff will be available to provide Information about the two remaining residencies opportunities at the mill during 2019.
