Presentation on the Chavis Park Public Art Project with David Wilson

  • VAE Raleigh 309 West Martin Street Raleigh, NC, 27601 United States (map)

Renowned artist David Wilson has been commissioned to create a public art installation as part of the renovation of John Chavis Memorial Park, the first Raleigh city park to be named to the National Register of Historic Places. Chavis Park was created in 1938 to serve the African-American community at a time when segregation denied access to most recreational venues.

David’s presentation will outline his inclusive design process for creating this public art project and explain how he is weaving together a collection of community images that tell the story of Chavis Park. There will be a Chavis Park Story & Photo Booth at this event. We will be scanning images and collecting oral histories for inclusion in the public art project so bring your Chavis Park photographs and memories. #BlackOnBlackV2
